Crop Tool

Click the button, then click and drag your screen to crop down to whatever you have selected. What is outside the crop selection will be deleted.

Move tool 

Click the button, then click and drag your screen to move your layer, selection, etc. This works with any kind of selection tool.

 


Marquee tool

Click the button, then click and drag your screen to select a square or rectangular area. You can choose  an  oval shape (Elliptical Marquee) for circular selection or the Square.

 


Lasso tool

Click the button, then click and drag your screen to make selections freehand. To complete the selection, close the loop by dragging all the way back to your starting point. Select the Polygonal Lasso for more control in your selections.


Wand

Click the button, then click your screen to select swaths of colour that match the colour you clicked on. Check Contiguous to only select pixels that touch; uncheck Contiguous to select matching pixels anywhere in the image. Raise or lower your Tolerance to make the colour parameters more or less strict.


Pencil

Click the button, then click and drag your image to draw freehand. 

 


Brush

Selection of different sizes and styles of brush


Eraser

Click the button, then click and drag to erase an area. You can also change the size of the eraser, using the Brush tool.


Paint Bucket

Click the button, select a colour for the colour palette, then click the image or shape to apply a solid colour to that area. 


Gradient tool

Click the button, then click and drag your image to apply a color gradient to that portion of the image. The color(s) of the gradient come from the two color patches in your Tools panel (usually white and black as the defaults). Change the color patches to change the color(s) used in the gradient. You can also modify the type of gradient by changing the options at the top of the scree


Clone Stamp tool

 Click the button, then hold down SHIFT and click an area of the image that you’d like to clone. Release SHIFT, then move the cursor over the area where you want the cloned image to be and click and drag; the area around your source will then appear wherever you click and drag. This is a very useful tool for covering imperfections (ex. cloning a smooth area of skin over a blemished area).


Colour Changer

Select a colour from the palette. Choose a colour in the image that you want to replace. Click on that colour with the Colour Changer tool. It uses  the centre of the brush as a reference for the replacement colour


Blur

Click the button, then click your image to blur that area


Smudge

Click the button, then click your image to smudge the area. Useful for softening wrinkles, for example. 

 


Sponge

Click the button, then click your image to saturate or desaturate ( intensify or reduce) the colours in that area.


Dodge

Click the button, then click your image to lighten that area


Burn

Click the button, then click your image to darken that area


Bloat

Click the button, then click your image to fatten up that area. Useful for making eyes bigger etc


Pinch

Click the button, then click your image to shrink that area


Colour Picker

Click the button, then click a colour you like in your image; that colour will now be the main colour in you colour patches. To select a picked colour as the alternate (i.e. background) colour in your colour patches, hold SHIFT while clicking.

 


Text

Click the button, then click and drag your image to create a text box into which you  can type. 


Colour Chooser

Colour chooser is not a tool but a utility that lets you choose different colours and also shows the recent colour chosen.
