Managing your files on the iPad
Unlike a computer, there is no Finder or Windows Explorer where you can manage your documents, images, music, photos etc. But there are ways of uploading files onto your iPad and downloading files from cloud storage apps or the internet. You can also use iTunes to synchronise files.
There are many apps you can use to manage documents and files on your iPad. The apps we will look at in this course are:
Goodreader: an app that allows you to read, manage, organize, access, and annotate just about any file that you would want to. You can download files, sync with Dropbox, create, edit, and manage annotations on PDFs, and much more. Download a file to GoodReader from the internet and upload a file to Google Drive
FileExplorer: helps you to access files on your remote computer (Mac, Windows), NAS Server and Cloud Storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive etc.) from the iPad or iPhone.
Readdle is a document management app. You are able to access local folders and documents, your networked servers and cloud providers, and recently viewed documents. You can also browse the Internet using the built in and well featured browser. Read more: Managing documents and files using Readdle documents.
Manage your documents with Goodreader 4
Goodreader makes it easy to download and upload files, documents, videos, photos. You can read a document, edit and annotate it, save it to a folder within the Goodreader app or upload it to Dropbox or some other cloud storage service, or upload it to a NAS server. It also has a media player so it will play audio and video - providing it is in the correct format. You can also download a file from the cloud to Goodreader or copy files between cloud services. For example: In Goodreader, download a .pdf from Dropbox and upload it to your Windows Onedrive account.
Download a pdf file into Goodreader from either the internet or from a cloud service like Google Drive.
Locate a pdf file on the internet and download it

1. Tap the screen to bring up the Open In.. menu
2. Select the app - Goodreader
Download a file from a cloud service like Google Drive
On the iPad, this is the app, Google Drive.
I have a Google account and a Google Drive. I can upload documents from my computer to and from this drive.
In this example, I want to download a pdf file from Google Drive and open it in Goodrfeader where I can edit / annotate it.
Open the document in Google Drive and share to Goodreader
1.Once the document is open, tap the Sharing button.
2. Open in the app .... Select Open in Goodreader.
The app will open directly in the viewing pane of Goodreader where you can view, edit and annotate it.
The pdf file opens in Goodreader
A .pdf file is opened in the reading pane of Goodreader.

Select: My Documents to go back to the Document manager

All the documents that appear in the left column can be edited, moved, deleted etc. To do this, tap Manage files.
Manage your files - the Options
Once a file is in Goodreader, select the files(s) you wish to manage.

Using the Cloud to upload documents from Goodreader
There are a number of cloud storage services you could use to manage your files.
Windows Skydrive; Box.net, Google Drive and Dropbox.
All require an account so find them on ther web and sign up for an account and set them up. You can find more information on how to do that here
Add your cloud service in Goodreader
1. Tap, Connect to Servers
2. Tap the Add button to add your account
Select the service you want to add
The services with the red dots are all free cloud services which you can add to Goodreader. Sign up for an account with each of them.
Authenticate the account you are adding
Sign into your account. In this example, sign into your Google account.
You need to do this with every cloud service you want to use.

Tap, My Documents to go back to the Documents menu

1. Select the document you want to upload.
2. Tap, Upload.
Select the destination - Google Drive
Select the destination for the document - in this case, we are uploading a pdf document to Google Drive.
Upload the document
All the files already uploaded to Google Drive appear.
When you're ready, tap the Upload button.
Select the destination in Google Drive
Last chance before uploading. You can select a folder to upload the file into.
You can also select more files from your Goodreader documents menu to upload.
Select, Upload item and yopur document will be uploaded to your Google Drive.
Check your google Drive to make sure it was uploaded.
